Material Insights - What Constitutes Transparent Heat Shrink Tubing
Transparent heat shrink tube refers to a general term for transparent heat shrink tubes, but transparent heat shrink tubes are made of many kinds of materials. Today, the editor of DUWAI will learn about the materials of transparent heat shrink tubes and their performance characteristics. First of all, let me tell you that the commonly used transparent heat shrinkable tubes are PE polyethylene, PVDF polyvinylidene fluoride, PTFE Teflon and polytetrafluoroethylene.
1. PE transparent heat shrinkable tubes can be divided into two types: single-wall transparent heat-shrinkable tubes and double-walled heat-shrinkable tubes:
Single wall clear heat shrink tubing is very soft and offers excellent transparency. The rated long-term operating temperature is 105°C. It cannot be flame retardant and can only produce non-flame retardant heat shrinkable tubes.
Due to the increased wall thickness, double-walled transparent heat-shrinkable tubing feels harder than single-walled transparent heat-shrinkable tubing. Its performance is similar to that of single-walled transparent heat-shrinkable tubing, with the added function of waterproof sealing.
2. The rated working temperature of PVDF transparent heat shrinkable tube can reach 150℃ and 175℃. 150℃ is slightly softer, and 175℃ is semi-rigid, which is relatively hard. Obvious creases can be seen after bending. With high transparency, bright surface, and flame retardant, PVDF transparent heat shrink tube is the leader among transparent heat shrink tubes. The only disadvantage is that it is a bit expensive.
3. Teflon transparent heat shrinkable tube has the highest temperature resistance in the entire heat shrinkable tube industry. The rated working temperature can reach 260°C and its flame retardant performance is very excellent. The standard color of Teflon heat shrink tubing is transparent. Although it is also called transparent, it is obviously whitened and the transparency is not as high as the first two. It can barely be considered translucent.
Therefore, the commonly used transparent heat shrinkable tubes are made of three materials: PE polyethylene, PVDF polyvinylidene fluoride, and PTFE Teflon. Among them, PE polyethylene transparent heat shrinkable tube has the lowest rated working temperature and cannot be flame retardant; PVDF polyvinylidene fluoride transparent heat shrinkable tube has a rated working temperature that can meet most use environments and has flame retardant effect; ptfe Teflon and polytetrafluoroethylene are transparent Heat shrinkable tube has the strongest temperature resistance and high flame retardant properties.
If you only need transparency and no flame retardant requirements, you can choose PE transparent heat shrink tube, which is affordable;
If you need high transparency and flame retardancy, choose PVDF transparent heat shrink tubing, which is oil-resistant and high-temperature resistant;
If the transparency requirements are not high, but high temperature resistance and flame retardancy are required, you can use PTFE Teflon heat shrink tubing, which can withstand temperatures up to 260°C. The corresponding transparent heat shrink tube can be selected according to the application environment.
