Demystifying Oil-Resistant Heat Shrinkable Tubes and Their Applications
What is oil-resistant heat shrink tubing?
Oil-resistant heat shrink tubing means that it can work in specific oils for a long time without being decomposed and softened, and can continue to maintain its intact state to protect cables or electronic components. Oil-resistant heat shrink tubing has a characteristic, that is, its shrinkage temperature and continuous operating temperature are relatively high, and it can work at high temperatures of 150°C and 200°C for a long time without deformation. Because oil has one characteristic, the working temperature in the oil is relatively high, so oil-resistant heat shrinkable tubes are also called high-temperature-resistant heat-shrinkable tubes, collectively referred to as oil-resistant and high-temperature-resistant heat shrinkable tubes.
What are oil-resistant heat shrinkable tubes?
Conventional ordinary heat shrinkable tubes are not resistant to oil. For example, PE and PVC materials are not resistant to oil. The working temperature of PE heat shrinkable tubes is limited to 125°C, and they are sensitive to temperature and easily soften at high temperatures. And PE material will be dissolved in chemical solvents and oils, so PE heat shrinkable tubes are not resistant to oil.
Oil-resistant heat shrinkable tubes must be specially developed for production to be oil-resistant. Oil-resistant heat shrinkable tubes are mainly divided into two types. They are widely used in oil resistance. Oil-resistant heat shrinkable tubes are mainly divided into DR diesel-resistant heat shrinkable tubes and fluorine rubber heat shrinkable tubes. Two types of management.
1. Diesel-resistant heat shrinkable tubing can work in diesel for a long time and is used to protect components in the oil from being corroded by diesel. It is generally used in diesel automobiles, aviation fuel, and fuel tank pump cable and pipeline protection. It can continue to work at temperatures of -75℃+150℃, and has excellent high temperature and low temperature resistance.
2. 200-degree fluororubber heat shrinkable tubing can work in most oils for a long time without being dissolved, and is resistant to chemical solvents and chemical corrosion. It is often used in commercial and military fields that require high temperature resistance, oil resistance, and chemical solvent resistance to prevent wiring harnesses. , pipelines or components are protected from damage in high-temperature oil. It can continue to work at temperatures of -65℃+200℃, and has excellent high temperature and low temperature resistance. It has practical application cases in transmission oil and lubricating oil. It has stable performance and no softening, cracking and other phenomena. It is an important component in the high-temperature lubricating oil of new energy vehicles to protect the wiring harness.
Summary: PE heat shrink tubing is not oil resistant, including double wall heat shrink tubing and single wall heat shrink tubing. Diesel resistant heat shrink tubing can continue to work in diesel fuel. Fluorine rubber heat shrink tubing can work in most oils and is one of the heat shrink tubing applications that accounts for the largest proportion of oil-resistant heat shrink tubing so far. Therefore, in an environment with oil, you need to choose oil-resistant heat shrink tubing to achieve sustained and effective protection.
